Where are they now? - Richard Pineo

"Where are they now?" article by Nick Gaywood. Originally published in our August 2020 newsletter

Sheffield has always been an attractive city to live in and following University or a work opportunity many a prospective player has been seduced by the lure of Abbeydale Park! In 2001 Richard Pineo appeared on the scene having just completed a stint for Mosman in the Sydney Grade competition with Andrew Strauss. For a few years he gave Collegiate an exceptional strike bowler and more than useful aggressive lower order batsman. These skills seeing him represent both Suffolk and Dorset at Minor Counties level. Pinners was particularly adept at finishing off the tail with his pinpoint yorkers regularly crashing into the stumps.

Before Collegiate Richard was a national level schoolboy performer at both hockey and cricket. Work eventually took him from Sheffield and his teaching career subsequently seen him teach at high profile independent schools including Ampleforth, Culford, Portsmouth Grammar School and Aldenham School. He is currently a House Master at Woodbridge School in his home county of Suffolk. He still plays cricket for Mistley CC and we look forward to seeing him back at Abbeydale sometime during our 100 years at Abbeydale celebrations next year.
